Upcoming Italian Events

April 4, 2018 through April 29, 2018:

The Italian Film Festival USA of Metro Detroit will again bring FREE screenings of the latest and best films in Italian cinema to Michigan audiences throughout the month of April. The festival will open on Wednesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Detroit Film Theatre (DFT) with In guerra per amore (At War For Love), a 2016 comedy which takes place during WWII stretching from New York City to Sicily. For the first time, the festival will extend its reach beyond the Metro Detroit area to East Lansing, with screenings at Michigan State University, and will also offer a new program especially for children.

Both opening and closing events will be held at the DFT, including an entire closing weekend in the beautiful theater (April 27-29). Screenings during the weekends between will be held in various locations: Wayne State University (Detroit), April 6-7; Michigan State University (East Lansing), April 6-7; University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), April 13-14; and Chippewa Valley High School (Clinton Township), April 20-21. With a commitment to draw in younger generations of Italian film lovers, a new initiative this year designed for children ages 6-12 will feature a selection of short animated and live-action films at the Bloomfield Township Public Library on Sunday, April 22, starting at 2 p.m.

The 2018 edition will offer a line-up of the best recent Italian cinema with films from award-winning directors, as well as debut films from exciting new talent. The program includes captivating dramas, wonderful comedies, and intriguing documentaries. Admission is FREE and open to the public. All films will be shown in original language with English subtitles.
Founded in 2005, the Italian Film Festival USA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that screens, for free, premiers of contemporary award-winning Italian films. With 11 other major metropolitan cities and more than 10,000 viewers, the festival is one of a kind in all the United States. Last year’s event in Metro Detroit drew about 3,500 people and was the most highly attended of all of the festivals.
